iTECH @ Thomas A. Edison Educational Center is a Magnet school and part of Miami Dade County Public Schools.  Magnet schools in M-DCPS are governed by regulations set forth by the School Board of Miami-Dade County. Therefore, students may apply during the open application process beginning October 1st through January 15th of each year.

If you are interested in applying to iTECH, you can either pickup an application at the school office or apply online. If you have already applied, please note that the notice of admission status will be distributed by the office of School Choice and Parental Options on/or about March 15th. If you have not received notification by March 27th, please contact iTECH at 305-762-5000.

iTECH @ Thomas A. Edison Educational does not require a letter of recommendation.

Admissions Criteria

  • Admission is interest-based only.
  • Incoming High School Freshman and Sophomores (currently in 8th and 9th Grade)
  • Students should have an interest in advanced technologies: Geospatial Information Systems(GIS), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) or Microsoft Applications (iCode)
  • A letter of recommendation is NOT required

 

Admissions Timeline

October 1  – January 15

Application for Magnet programs open at this time. Applications will be accepted beginning October 1st for the following school year. You can apply online or via paper application. It is highly encouraged that students apply online.

On the application you will be asked to choose one of our academies. The academies include:

  • Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)
  • Geospatial Information Systems (GIS)
  • Microsoft Software Solutions (iCode)

Please pick the academy carefully on the application. Once an academy is selected, it cannot be changed.

  • January 15
    All private school documentation must be hand delivered to the main office by January 15th.
  • March 8
    Random selection process will take place.
  • March 15
    Acceptance, waitlist, or decline notification letters are e-mailed to parents.
  • March 30
    Deadline for parents to accept or decline invitation for their student to attend iTECH @ Thomas A. Edison Educational Center.

 

Private School Students

Private school students can apply online using the same website as current Miami Dade County Public School students. However, they need to login as a “New Student” and it will generate a number for you. All additional documentation is to be uploaded on the online application as an attachment.

The necessary documentation includes:

  • Copies of Report cards for 7th grade and the first quarter of 8th grade.

Sibling/Military Rule

Siblings of current students who are enrolled will be admitted IF they meet our criteria. Sibling applicants MUST meet eligibility criteria for sibling preference, admission is not guaranteed. Additionally, current iTECH student address must match the address provided on the sibling applicant’s Magnet application.

Qualifying students belonging to an active military family and applicants who are siblings of a student who is currently enrolled and will be attending the same Magnet school next year, will receive priority designation if a spot is available. Students of active duty military families who have provided proof to individual schools to which  they are applying.
